A problem of the past is rotting in the corner of the office, and the smell doesn't allow Dad to work in peace.

Taro and Chie Yoshida live on the fifth floor of an apartment complex with no elevator. 76-year-old Taro, confined to a wheelchair, has a walking disability. 72-year-old Chie suffers from dementia. They struggle with the challenges of elderly caregiving in a harsh world that is falling apart. With no means of escape and no one to help them, they are left to fend for themselves. Can Taro and Chie survive on their own?

Our narrator looks fondly back at his childhood in Liverpool and the antics of his best friend Johnno. Well known for being a showman and a keen one for joking and the like, Johnno starts to change for the worse after he announced that his father has died.

Hannes Brahm's life is marked by problems. Not only is he struggling with unemployment, but his marriage is also on the rocks. His wife Claudia also accuses him of not even taking care of their daughter Maria. The situation comes to a head after Maria disappears during a visit to a media market. Dad’s Stick features three well-used objects that were shown to me by my father shortly before he died. Two of these were so steeped in history that their original forms and functions were almost completely obscured. The third object seemed to be instantly recognisable, but it turned out to be something else entirely. Focusing on these ambiguous artifacts and events relating to their history, Dad’s Stick creates a dialogue between abstraction and literal meaning. Looking back over half a century, the work explores the contradictions of memory to create an oblique portrait of ‘a perfectionist with a steady hand’.
